Vancouver based drummer and composer Kevin Romain has finally released the first album by his long running trio, Salience Network. They're joined on two tracks by trumpeter Feven Kidane, and have created a post-bop pastiche that pays tribute to some of Kevin's most overt influences while blazing a path into one of many possible futures for this music.

I find this album captivating and atmospheric. There is a vogue for all things "cold" in synth music but this work maintains just the right temperature: pleasingly cool but not glacial, with no lack of emotion. I like the thoughtful lyrics, carefully orchestrated soundscapes and subtly changing moods. unutterably_lyle
